Schools are filled with people who have the best intentions to meet the needs of
the students in the school. In this endeavor, these people bring many different
skills and experiences to the process. Schooling does happen and on many occasions it
is excellent schooling. This happens most often when a student, by the luck of the draw, is
coupled with an excellent teacher. Real teaching and learning can take place with only two
individuals.
An excellent school on the other hand is the result of students, parents,
teachers and administrators working together in harmony to advance the learning of the students.
This does not come about by happenstance; it requires a thought-out, well-defined plan.
The plan described is grounded in research and based on my experience at
Brewster Academy. The Brewster Academy model was developed by Dr. Alan Bain of
The Endeavor Group.
His School Design ModelSM was used to put in place a program that
defined the Brewster program.
Intentional Schools is an organization dedicated to support an intentional school design
that is biblically sound and brings the best of what we know about learning and learners to
Christian schools.
