The quality of schools has not changed much in recent decades,
yet the need for skilled life-long learners has. Learning for many students
can sometimes be disconnected, inefficient and impersonal. Schools
are too often a multi-year sentence. Students can pass by putting in their
time. Teachers, limited by time, are forced to let things go. Personal excellence
is achieved by the very few students who happen to have an ability and learning style that
fits what's offered. There is a way to help all students reach excellence at
an appropriate pace using learning styles best for them. This can be done without lowering
expectations. It must be done in an environment that is safe and
secure. Schools can become more positive and rewarding.
Scripture tells us that God made each one of us unique and with a purpose. It
is unfortunate that most schools adopt a "one textbook fits all" approach to the classroom.
A Christian School should operate in a way that focuses on the
individual learner. The Bible and Jesus need to be explored through structured curriculum that supports
the Christian world-view yet still addresses State Frameworks. It is the belief
of Intentional Schools that a student's personal walk with Jesus Christ is the
most important step in her life. The most important step for a Christian school is the development
of a statement of belief, a statement of purpose, a defined role for parents, and goals for
learners. Once these are in place the framework is ready to design an Intentional School.
