Weak culture of practice -
Certain teaching practices may be encouraged, but use is determined by the teacher.
Weak structure to promote practice -
Schools and states require teachers to take courses or seminars to advance their learning,
but little is required as far as adoption of practices.
Weak process of evaluation -
Drive-by evaluations are too often the sole indicator of performance. Many players in a
student's learning as well as student performance are left out of the picture.
Teacher is monarch of her kingdom -
Schools too often take on the attitude that no news is good news. A class that is not
disruptive is believed to have learning happening.
Loose coupling within the school -
This world of many monarchies promotes an environment where one hand doesn't know what
the other is doing.
Schools use little of our knowledge set -
Learning, Teaching, Leadership, Technology
There has been much research in these areas in the last 20 years.
Schools need to reflect this knowledge.
