Curriculum is an area that is probably the most unique in Intentional Schools. It bears little
resemblance to a scope & sequence that typically passes for curriculum. It is the connections between
all the parts that make it truly great. A completed curriculum contains a scope and sequence
laid out with goals and purposes written to the learner and available to parents as part of the team. Learner
outcomes based on goals and student abilities give opportunity for evaluation and confirmation of
mastery. Review and relearning are built into the daily routine. Evaluations and digital delivery of content
using best teaching practices are all necessary components of the completed curriculum.
The best teaching practices are chosen by what research shows to be most effective in teaching.
Structured direct teaching shows the highest effect size and contains the most important instructional characteristics:
Structure & sequence, reinforcement, mastery, practice, feedback
Other best practices should include.
Cooperative Learning Strategies
Differentiated Instruction
Authentic Assessment
