A year's curriculum will be broken into five units. Each unit will have six sections. The 5th
section will include a benchmark exhibition of an integrated unit project and evaluation. These
projects will also be integrated between disciplines when possible. Achieving mastery
requires a substantial amount of learning. Course expectations will correlate to
State Standards and school graduation expectations. Students will not pass
through this system based on "seat time." If a student receives a novice
rating (not mastery) on a unit project and evaluation, he/she will be required
to continue work during the 6th section until a basic level of understanding is
reached. Students showing mastery will be doing enrichment work at that time.
Students will be assigned a quality rating of basic, standard or honors for each unit exhibition
completed. Basic is a level that shows a real understanding of concepts and
skills with an ability to apply them. The minimum basic level is about 78%. Standard shows
a higher level of understanding normally evidenced by the student's ability to fully
analyze real world problems. Honors is a rating given to those students who
have a command over the content that allows them to apply their knowledge in
unpredictable situations. For a student to complete a course in a given level,
he/she must meet mastery in that level the first time through three out of the five units.
