Schools have wrestled with the challenge of acquiring educational technology and staying current
since the mid 80's. The current paradigm cannot be used as a long-term model for schools to
take advantage of what technology has to offer. Indeed it is only through the use of technology,
specifically personal computers communicating through the inter-net, that the large number of asks required of
Intentional Schools are possible. A new model for technology use is needed. Intentional Schools will take
advantage of current technologies that will allow
the student, parent and school to be important players for the student's team. Teachers
and students will be expected to provide and upkeep their own portable computer. The
brand of the computer is not important, but it is expected to have school determined application
software (typically Microsoft Office) a web browser and ability to access a school network. The
school will provide power outlets and networking on campus. Teachers will be provided
projectors so students and teachers will be able to project presentations for
classroom use. Web-notes, class-work, portfolios, student data and school
administrative data will be kept on a remotely hosted php-mysql compliant
server. This will allow web interfaced work portals to be accessed by
students, parents, teachers and administration from any location on any machine.
